CASTING CALL: THE TEMPEST (OPEN AIR)

MPTC (Mornington Peninsula Theatre Company) is thrilled to announce auditions for our upcoming January 2027 open-air production of Shakespeare’s The Tempest.

We are known for our fresh, modern takes on classic productions, and this show will be no exception—it is going to be a whole lot of fun! We are seeking a diverse, passionate cast to bring this magical island to life.

## THE OPPORTUNITY

* Production Type: Profit-share

* Rehearsal Location: Mornington

* Rehearsal Schedule: 2 evenings per week + 1 weekend daytime rehearsal

* Performance Dates: January 19–24, 2027 (Open Air)

## OUR CASTING PHILOSOPHY

We are completely open to cross-casting and gender-fluid casting for all roles. If you can bring something new, exciting, and unique to a character, we want to hear from you!

Note: Some characters will be required to sing a cappella. If you play a portable instrument, we want to know! Please include these details in your application.

## CHARACTER BREAKDOWNS## Principal Roles

* Prospero/Prospera: The wronged Duke/Duchess of Milan. A powerful magician living in exile. Commanding, complex, and fiercely protective.

* Miranda/Mirando: Prospero’s child. Honest, compassionate, and naive to the outside world, having grown up isolated on the island.

* Ariel: An airy, magical spirit bound to Prospero's service. Ethereal, playful, and desperate for freedom. (Singing/movement skills a plus)

* Caliban: A native of the island, forced into servitude by Prospero. Raw, resentful, poetic, and complex.

* Alonso/Alonsa: The King/Queen of Naples. Heavy-hearted and deeply regretful of past actions.

* Ferdinand/Fernanda: The royal heir of Naples. Romantic, loyal, and instantly captivated by Miranda/Mirando.

* Sebastian/Sebastienne: Alonso’s sibling. Cynical, easily led, and plotting to seize power.

* Antonio/Antonia: Prospero’s treacherous sibling who usurped the dukedom. Ambitious, sharp, and unapologetic.

* Gonzalo/Gonzala: An honest old counsellor. Optimistic, loyal, and the moral compass of the group.

* Trinculo/Trincula & Stephano/Stephana: The comedic duo. A jester and a drunken butler who hatch a chaotic plot to rule the island. High energy and great comedic timing required!

## The Ensemble

* Chorus of Nymphs, Sailors, and Sprites: The magical heartbeat of the island. We are looking for versatile performers to create the atmosphere, music, and movement of the tempestuous setting.
