MPtc Audition Information Pack: Pygmalion
Thank you for your interest in MPtc’s upcoming production of George Bernard Shaw’s classic comedy, Pygmalion. This information pack outlines everything you need to know about the audition process, character requirements, and production commitments.
Key Production Dates & Venue
Performance Season: Tuesday, 29 September – Sunday, 4 October 2026
Hold Dates: 5 October – 11 October 2026 (Actors must remain available for a possible one-week season extension).
Performance Venue: Bellamy Hall Theatre (Mornington).
Rehearsal Schedule & Commitment
All rehearsals take place at Mornington Community House (91 Wilson’s Road, Mornington VIC 3931). By auditioning, you confirm your availability for the following weekly time slots:
Mondays: 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Fridays: 6:30 pm – 9:30 pm
Saturdays: 11:00 am – 5:00 pm (Full day)
Note: We will always try to work around prior commitments wherever possible, but we request your flexibility and commitment to the project.
Attendance is mandatory for technical rehearsals and dress rehearsals during production week.
Audition Requirements & Venue

What to Prepare:
One 2-3 minute monologue showcasing dramatic or comedic range.
Accent flexibility: Be prepared to read in either a Standard British (RP) or Cockney accent.
Character Breakdown
Henry Higgins (Playing age 35–55): A brilliant but arrogant, domineering professor of phonetics. A massive, dialogue-heavy role requiring excellent comic timing.
Colonel Pickering (Playing age 40–70): A retired British officer and fellow linguist. Polite, gentlemanly, and empathetic; the ultimate foil to Higgins.
Alfred Doolittle (Playing age 45–65): Eliza’s father. A smooth-talking, philosophical dustman who unexpectedly inherits wealth. Requires strong comedic presence and a robust Cockney accent.
Mrs. Higgins (Playing age 60+): Henry Higgins’ elegant, upper-class mother. Possesses a sharp wit, fierce independence, and modern sensibilities.
Mrs. Pearce (Playing age 40+): Higgins' pragmatic, no-nonsense housekeeper who keeps his chaotic household running.
Clara Eynsford-Hill: Freddy’s upper-class and snobbish sister, representing traditional London society.
Ensemble (All ages): Marketplace bystanders, high-society gala guests, and household servants.
