Theatre magic relies heavily on what the actors wear. We are seeking creative and practical Costume Coordinators and Sewers to bring our characters to life. Whether you love hunting for vintage treasures in op shops, managing fittings, or sitting behind a sewing machine to alter garments, your skills will shape the visual identity of our productions.
Key Responsibilities
You can choose to focus on one area or help across all three:
Costume Sourcing: Work with the Director to source outfits through our existing MPtc wardrobe storage, local op shops, hire places, or online platforms.
Wardrobe Management: Coordinate and run actor fittings at Bellamy Hall, ensuring outfits are comfortable, safe, and fit the character.
Sewing & Alterations: Perform necessary stitching adjustments, hem lines, add embellishments, or repair costumes during the technical and dress rehearsal runs.
Backstage Maintenance: Help label costumes and ensure garments are neatly hung and organised in the dressing rooms during show week.
What We’re Looking For
For Sourcing/Coordinating: An eye for style, detail, and historical periods, plus excellent organisational skills.
For Sewing/Altering: Basic to advanced sewing skills (hand stitching or machine sewing) and your own reliable sewing machine at home.
For Everyone: A patient, encouraging manner when working with actors of all ages during fittings.
What’s in it for You
Creative Expression: Play a vital role in designing the look and feel of high-quality local theatre productions.
Skill Sharing: Connect with fellow local creatives, makers, and textiles enthusiasts on the Peninsula.
Flexible Contribution: Do the bulk of your sewing or sourcing work from home at times that suit your lifestyle.
Perks: Receive complimentary tickets to the production, invitations to social events, and program credits.
